We successfully spent our first night in the "Most Haunted Hotel in Texas," but I can't say it was without a hitch. A few members of our group claimed that they witnessed some supernatural activity like lights randomly turning off and voices in the elevator! OooOOo!
The crew was able enjoy their morning and sleep in a bit before we met in the lobby of the Menger at 10:30 AM. Our first destination was the IMAX Theater to watch the movie "The Alamo." The movie depicted the history of the famous battle between the Texans and the Mexicans during the Texas Revolution. The Alamo was previously a Roman Catholic mission and was eventually occupied by Texan volunteer soldiers. In February 1836, Mexican troops led by Santa Anna began a siege on the fort. The Texans, who were vastly outnumbered, held off the Mexicans for 13 days but were eventually overpowered and defeated. The Battle of the Alamo is remembered for the Texan's heroic resistance and their strong desire for independence. Their motto was "Liberty, victory or death!"
After the movie, we hopped across the street to the actual site of The Alamo where some of the original walls of the mission's chapel still stand.
The afternoon was filled with free time in San Antonio. The kiddos ate lunch, went to the Riverwalk, shopped for souvenirs, and went swimming at the hotel pool. They are living their last bus-free day to the fullest!
The group walked to Fuddrucker's for dinner and enjoyed a hamburger or chicken sandwich with seasoned steak fries. Their plates were clean so it must have hit the spot! We are off to New Orleans in the morning!
