Day 4: Salina to Colorado Springs

Another bright and early morning had us traveling across The Great Plains of Kansas, with minimal views other than the hundreds of giant white windmills.

Just before lunch in Limon, the ground terrain began to change and as we ascended over a small hill, the Colorado Rockies appeared in the distance. At our rest stop at lunch, students were commenting on how the land across the United States is very diverse and unique. From the rolling wheat fields of Kansas to the snow-capped mountains of Colorado, all within a few short hours, this leg of the trip highlights these vast differences in scenery.

Our first exciting part of today was stopping at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. We toured the grounds, watched an intense video of a year in the life of a cadet, then hiked up to the cadet chapel, a place where all denominations are encouraged to come and worship. Students were mesmerized by the colorful interior, and even more amazed by the beautiful scenery of the picturesque Rocky Mountains surrounding us.

We got our first bit of downtime after the USAFA adventure, and the kids took full advantage, some working out, others running to the nearest Chick-Fil-A, and most decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and hang out in or around he outdoor pool.

Dinner tonight was at Fargo's Pizza, The World's Largest Pizza Parlor. The kids loved the cell phone free sharing of pizza pies, ordering at the windows, and even the servers' eclectic outfits. Both guys and girls are super pumped up hearing about the adventures that await tomorrow!
