Day 8: Arches National Park to Salt Lake City

Once again, the guys and girls were jolted awake to begin an early day of travel. Good thing they were filled with a hearty breakfast. A few were even lucky enough to spot a bear lurking right outside the hotel!

The bus ride was long as we traveled through the Canyonlands to get to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, but with sleepy students it was a silent journey. They slowly stirred awake when we approached the enormous red rock formations.

The park lies atop an underground salt bed that is responsible for the arches, spires, balanced rocks, sandstone fins, and eroded monoliths of this mecca for sightseers. This 77,000 acre park is home to over 2,000 natural sandstone arches. The kids kept mentioning how we were in "Radiator Springs," referencing the Cars 3 movie we watched in Salina, Kansas on Day 3 of our trip.

Pictures simply cannot do these views justice. First, we hiked to The Windows, where students were given an opportunity to explore and climb. The crew was daring and fearless as they climbed and jumped from rock to rock.

After a picnic lunch where the kids found unique eating places, we hiked in deep sand to Sand Dune Arch. Many of the students quickly realized the value of a full water bottle and our recommendations to stay hydrated.

We pulled into Salt Lake City with tons of energy to burn off. The kids definitely enjoyed a loud and delicious family style dinner of bread, salad, chicken alfredo, spaghetti, chicken parmesan, and cheesecake at Buca di Bepo! We burned off some calories by walking a few blocks down to Temple Square and chilled and relaxed in a nearby park before heading back to the hotel for the night.
