Day 5 Part 3: Colorado Springs Pikes Peak

Our afternoon was spent enjoying a picturesque ride on the Cog Railway. The train climbed up to Pikes Peak which is 14,115 feet above sea level at an average grade of 12%. The group learned a lot about the railway from our humorous conductor, Grant, who happened to be Miller's look-a-like! We traveled through the aspen and pine forest to the top that had breathtaking views of Colorado Springs. We even caught a glimpse of a deer and a few marmots!

Once we arrived at the Pikes Peak Summit House, much of the crew tried out their "World Famous Donuts" that have a special recipe made just for the high altitude- they were tasty! Also while at the top, it started to snow and there were two rainbows! It was an exhilarating few minutes that made the trip even more fun. The group had a very lucky day, Mother Nature was on our side! On the steep ride back down the mountain, our conductor talked about one of the most asked questions, "what kind of brakes does the train have?" He said that the train has 3 sets of brakes but there are also two springs at the bottom of the mountain, Colorado Springs and Manitou Springs! Haha.
