Day 18: Gold Beach to San Francisco, CA

Hard to believe we're in the last half of our Grand Western Tour! The kids are well seasoned now with the early morning routine and the hustle and bustle of loading the bus, finding their seat, and settling in for the ride each day. The guys and gals were dressed in their USA best today, making a bold statement wherever we went. We stopped for breakfast at McDonald's in Brookings, Oregon. We've run into many regulars during our morning breakfast runs, and on this particular morning, one of the regulars knew exactly who we were upon entering. He said he's seen the Grand Western Tour come through here every year for the last four years!

We made a pit stop at our own personal and literal jungle gym; The Avenue of the Giants. Inside The Greig Grove of The National Redwood Forest, the group found fallen trees, fields of clover, and more climbing and playing opportunities than could fill our 20 minute romp time. They looked like little ants marching around and the laughter and excitement echoed and bounced off the giant trees of the breathtaking forest. Our lunch stop made the crew thankful for indoor plumbing, but a bit of food in their bellies put them right back to sleep on the bus ride into San Fran. If there's one thing this group loves to do it's sleeping and eating!

Famous Highway 101 did not disappoint with its scenic views and the moment we saw the Golden Gate Bridge from a distance, they were wide awake ready for a new fun-filled city. We immediately checked in to our hotel and walked a few blocks to Fisherman's Wharf and the famous In-N-Out Burger for dinner. The line was out the door from the time we got there til well after we were finished! This place was especially significant for one of the girls because it was her first hamburger she's EVER eaten! She loved it along with everyone else!

The group stood on Pier 39 to watch the 4th of July fireworks display! Getting a group pic is a feat in itself, but they are always troopers whenever we try to corral them together for photos!
