Day 17: Seattle to Gold Beach, OR

Early Monday morning, the Grand Western Tour checked out of Hotel Deca in Seattle, Washington and set off for Gold Beach, Oregon. Our first stop was only a couple miles away at a classic American institution, McDonald's, in the University of Washington district. Everyone devoured their breakfast whether it was hot cakes, sausage biscuits, hash browns, or iced coffee. Mickey D's is always a hit with this crowd!

We hit the highway during morning rush hour but that didn't slow us down one bit. Not long after waving goodbye to the Space Needle, the entire bus fell fast asleep. They were exhausted from such an  eventful couple days! Good thing we had a solid 8+ hours to relax and catch up on rest. We made a pit stop at Gee Creek Safety Rest Area near the Washington-Oregon state line. We weren't expecting it but BRRR it was chilly!

Day 17 was filled with scenic drive down the Oregon coast on Highway 101 where the cliffs meet the ocean. There were squeals of excitement as we saw the first glimpse of the Pacific. The huge boulders make a gorgeous statement unlike anything we have on the East Coast.

The bus pulled up to Jot's Fishing Resort just in time for dinner and a karaoke party. We had barbecue ribs, chicken, salad, baked beans and bread. Tonight we also celebrated those with birthdays during the Grand Western Tour, Lawrence and William. A very special Happy Birthday to Lawrence because today is his 16th birthday! William's is just a few days away. We had homemade chocolate and vanilla birthday cake to top it all off.

The kiddos loved karaoke and dancing with DJ Deb. We were set up in the Jot's Resort parking lot which gave us a ton of space to spread out and party! The crew sang classics by Katy Perry, Old Crow Medicine Show, Eminem, Elton John, and Macklemore, just to name a few.
