Day 21: San Francisco to Anaheim

As our time in San Francisco drew to a close, we parted with a delicious breakfast at the Holiday Inn Express that included omelets, muffins, sausage, bacon, cereal, and warm cinnamon buns (Clarence's personal favorite). We seemed to hit every single stop light as we drove through the city but we soon crossed over the Bay Bridge and looked back over the beautiful City by the Bay.

After a few hours of travel, we took a break and the weather was a bit of a shock as we hopped off the bus. The temperature in San Francisco was in the 50s and now the bus thermometer read 102 degrees! It's amazing the difference a short drive can make. The crew had been eager for warmer weather but didn't know this was what California had in store! To cool off, several kiddos picked up ice cream from a vending machine as a mid-morning snack.

A few more hours down the road, we stopped in middle of nowhere, California, also known as Buttonwillow, for lunch. Some of the top choices were Popeyes, Taco Bell, Starbucks, and Denny's. This seemed to be a big tourist stop as there were 4 or 5 other busses parked nearby!

As we drove down Interstate 5, we passed farm after farm and endless dry and barren hills. It was not the California scenery that the group had imagined, that's for sure. To pass the time, the crew caught up on sleep, listened to music and watched a classic movie, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off."

We hit L.A. traffic around 3:00 pm but it might as well have been rush hour. We inched our way through the city, bumper to bumper, reliving the song "L.A. Freeway" by Jerry Jeff Walker. We made it to the hotel a couple hours later around 5:15 pm and the first thing the group did was hit the pool and jacuzzi!

Day 21 ended with dinner at The Pizza Press and some time to explore downtown Disney. The crew loved the pizza place and someone even said it was the best pizza they had ever had! Wow, that's saying something! We hope to get a good night's rest in preparation for Disneyland tomorrow!

A special Happy Birthday shout out to William! Today is his 16th birthday!
